Land Rover Recalls 250,857 Vehicles Over Potential Safety Issues

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Land Rover has recalled approximately 250,000 SUVs and crossovers.

The decision was made due to a potential issue involving the airbag system in the Land Rover Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover models. The defect affects Discovery models produced between 2021-2026, Defender models from 2020-2026, and Range Rover models manufactured between 2022-2026.

As stated in the NHTSA documents, the airbag connector (a component that connects electrical wires and systems) may corrode over time. This could interfere with the deployment of the airbags during a crash. It is believed that all 250,857 recalled vehicles may be affected by the issue.

Fortunately, the investigation found that a warning indicator on the dashboard is expected to light up at least 500-600 km before the corrosion becomes severe enough to affect the connector’s function. At the time the recall notice was filed, Land Rover had not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to the defect.
