Elon Musk has unveiled one of Tesla’s most ambitious projects yet - the Roadster, whose presentation left the audience stunned. The prototype first demonstrated its ability to move upside down before performing an airborne maneuver.

That is precisely why the event was held outdoors. With the help of special fans, the car moved upside down on a ramp. At the final moment, small SpaceX rocket thrusters were activated, propelling the Roadster into the air. After an impressive flight, the vehicle landed safely.

“It practically flies like a rocket and can perform, so to speak, incredible acrobatic stunts,” Musk told the audience, jokingly adding that it was not exactly a safety-oriented vehicle.

Musk noted that the Roadster would be a real car designed for road use. He did not reveal many of its specifications or discuss its price, but confirmed that production was expected to begin in 2028.

During the event, the Roadster prototype also underwent acceleration tests, assisted by four rocket thrusters mounted at the rear. On its very first attempt to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it recorded exactly 1 second. When Musk was reminded of his earlier promise to achieve a time of less than one second, the Roadster completed the same acceleration on its second attempt in just 0.8 seconds. According to Musk, this is not the limit, and even better results are expected.

As for top speed, the new Roadster is expected to exceed 370 km/h, although Tesla’s ultimate goal is to reach half the speed of sound - approximately 616 km/h. “It will break every existing record, on any track,” Musk declared.

Interestingly, the vehicle featured in the presentation had no driver on board, a decision made for safety reasons.
